Which movie is the best?
I’m not going to make an argument about the merits of The Matrix Reloaded, The Dark Knight Rises, or the Terminator franchise, all of which were pretty great movies in their own right, but there’s one film that really stands out as one of the most memorable and beloved in the genre: The Matrix, which was released on August 17, 2001.
While the series has had a fairly quiet life since its inception, it still stands as one the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time, and we’ll be revisiting it soon.
So what is The Matrix?
Well, in essence, The Matrix is a series of interconnected computer games that you play as Neo in the future.
It was created by famed game developer Ken Levine and first launched in 1991, and the games have since gone on to become some of the best-selling video games ever.
(Although the series had its own fair share of problems, including some of its own creative problems.)
The series first hit shelves on August 23, 2001, and it wasn’t until 1999 that it officially entered the popular-video-game canon.
For those who have never played The Matrix games, they are essentially computer-based interactive experiences, where you play a fictionalized version of a future world where humanity has been given a new computer, the Matrix.
The first two games were extremely simple and repetitive, which made it hard for newcomers to understand the game and its themes, and for the series to establish itself as something truly special.
In the years since, however, the series evolved and took on more complex storylines and characters, and in recent years it has become one of gaming’s most popular franchises, winning the Golden Lion Award for best franchise of all-time in 2015.
The games themselves are, as you’d expect, an amalgam of various video game genres.
There are the traditional point and click adventure titles like Half-Life, Fallout, and Doom, and there are also the platformers like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and Super Mario Brothers, which allow you to play as a character in a game world that resembles the real world, but is made up of different elements that come together to create an overall world.
In fact, The Biggest Loser has an entire section dedicated to explaining how these games work, and one of my favorite games of all times, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, was originally designed to replicate The Matrix’s environments.
There’s a lot to love about The Matrix series, and I think it’s one of our favorite series of all years.
It’s one that we’ve had in our hearts for a long time now, and a series that we feel has been greatly missed.
In many ways, it’s our favorite gaming series of the past decade, and if you’ve never played it before, it’ll be one of those games that gets your attention instantly.
I’m not sure what The Matrix has to do with the Oscars right now, but I definitely can’t wait to get my hands on The Matrix: Reloaded, and while I’m sure it won’t be the same as the original, I’ll definitely be checking it out when it releases.
